Hi! I'm Laurianne Houtman, an illustrator and graphic designer, living in Dordrecht (NL), together with my husband, two-year-old daughter and two cats.
In 2012 I got my Bachelor of Design degree at the Willem de Kooning Academy, Rotterdam. Because I like more than one art form and cannot choose one to excellence in, I just do them all. That is: illustration, surface pattern design, graphic design, handicraft and sewing.
Throughout the years this has led to some cool commissions for JUMBO supermarket, artwork for independent record labels, illustrating motorcycle helmets, selling personal artwork at concept stores in Rotterdam, book illustrations for someone who was very frustrated with her ex and my first job in fashion as an artwork and all-over-print designer at Garcia (2021-2025).
As a child I was always drawing and making stuff. And I still do!
My inspiration comes from decorative elements in architecture and interior, folk art, handicraft, textures and patterns, space, symbolism, flowers, fashion, vintage graphic design and illustration. I can get the tiniest idea for a new project when just seeing something. So you can imagine my to-do-sometime-list is a long one...
My style differs per medium, but I'm always starting off doing research through information and imagery, and while combining the lot, ideas and stories pop-up. I then create tiny composition sketches, choose a few and make, make, make, until I'm happy with it. And of course when the client is happy with it as well!
YOU AND ME, WHAT A GREAT IDEA!
I would love to work with you, wether you're in the Netherlands or abroad.
